CENTRAL CALIFORNIA SOCCER REFEREE ASSOCIATION

MONTHLY MEETING MINUTES

February 20, 2009

Call to Order:  Meeting was called to order by Second Vice-President Jim Sandison at 7:35 pm.

Roll Call:  Second Vice-President – Jim Sandison; Treasurer – Ed Miles; Secretary – Dave Richard; Members at Large – Jim Sutton;

Attendance:  Approximately 30 individuals were in attendance

Second Vice-President’s Report (Jim Sandison):  Proposed constitution for CCSRA is on web page.  Please review and if you have questions please contact Jim Sutton.  Constitution will be voted on at AGM meeting in April.

Instructional Period (Ron Preble):  Styles of play:

  • Less emphasis on teaching offsite trap.
  • Coach players to play hard, play fair, and play until you hear the whistle.
  • Need much wider angle and field of view because of the tendency to send ball wide particularly when midfielder has been beaten.
  • Four moments in soccer:  with the ball, without the ball, just won ball, just lost ball.
  • May see more aggressive tackling when ball is sent wide.
  • Coaches will talk to players about referee styles.
  • Only make the call if you can clearly see the incident.
  • Focus is on numbers around the ball.
  • Solid defensive midfielders tend to be bruisers.
  • 3-4-3 tends to be a more attacking formation.
  • Need to watch for picks on set plays.
  • Keys for good referee – manage the match, deal with dangerous play

District Director of Assessments (Lynn Williams) Approved to use assessments for Association Cup U19 matches at Cherry Island.  Contact Ed Foster to schedule assessment.

Dave Simmons:  To be considered for NPSL or WPSL need to send resume to Dave Simmons if you did not participate last season.

Good of the game:

Ed Miles received his national assessment as an indoor referee.

Nestor Chavez has upgraded to National referee.

Meeting was adjourned at 9:30 pm.
